CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

FLOP is a monthly event series that exists at the intersection of nightlife and art. Think 1990s lounge x 1900s salon: relaxation meets reinvention, chill out meets conceptual, Greg Araki meets Tolouse Lautrec, vernissage meets after hours, fog machine meets Noguchi, and Pina Bausch meets sneaker pimps with the support of an engaged, non-traditional public.

We are interested in submissions that are inviting, sensual, relaxing, connective, and nuanced. We are not looking to program work that is abrasive or disruptive. Though we know such work has its place, chilling is our intervention supported by the belief that ‘chilling’ by and for ‘chilling’s’ sake is itself a disruption of the constant demands and pressures of late-stage neoliberal reality. That said, we have programmed everything from flute performance to improvisational contemporary dance to 3D animated games. Our curatorial perspective is expansive and wide. What we’re most concerned with is alignment of vibe.

Our artist fees are somewhat modest, but we can promise the following:

  • Participation in a CAM-funded project
  • Artist platforming prior to the event
  • Some documentation
  •  Access to engaged, diverse audience

Our current series will take place at Breakglass Studios on: July 19, August 15, and September 21. Future editions have not yet been planned.
